Small Double Mattresses

A small double bed mattress offers a useful middle ground between a single and a standard double. With more sleeping width than a single but a smaller footprint than a double, it can be a practical choice for bedrooms where space is limited.

Small double mattresses are often suited to compact master bedrooms, guest rooms and rooms where you want a little more sleeping space without using as much floor area as a full-size double bed.

A small double mattress is commonly known as a 4ft mattress, measuring approximately 120cm wide and 190cm long. However, it's important to check the exact measurements of your bed frame before ordering, as dimensions can vary between products.

If you're replacing an existing mattress, measure the frame or old mattress carefully and compare the measurements with the product specifications.

A small double can be particularly useful when a standard double would leave a bedroom feeling cramped. It gives couples more room than a single while allowing you to preserve valuable floor space for wardrobes, drawers and other furniture.

It can also work well in guest bedrooms, particularly where you want to accommodate two people without dedicating as much space to a larger bed.

Once you've confirmed the correct size, consider the level of firmness and the type of mattress construction that suits you. Different materials can create noticeably different feels, so take the time to compare the specifications of each mattress.

If you're buying a new bed and mattress together, check that both products are designed for the same small double dimensions before ordering.
